Rams are on a roll.

Rams are on a roll.

Dan Watson

Rams sweep aside stubborn Melbourne.

Red hot U13 Rams met Melbourne in first round of the cup for the second season in a row this weekend. Last seasons encounter was decided on penalties, however, this season, the Rams are in absolutely no mood to mess about and have showed how ruthless they can be in control of games and in front of goal.

From the first whistle, the lads took control of the game, thanked largely by a commanding performance from Toby Shaw in midfield. Toby's composure and vision allowed him to dictate the tempo and allowed the others the freedom to do what they all do best, dominate and beat teams with constant pressure.

After a sustained period of good play including plenty of possession and attacking play down the channels, it was a set piece that opening the scoring on the 20 minute mark as Charlie Bradley netted the opener from a fantastic George Mitchell corner.

Thankfully, the second didn't take long to arrive, and again, from a set piece. This time courtesy of the penalty spot.

Hugo Fern, midfield dynamo, made a typical lung busting run down the middle only to be hacked down inside the box, leaving the referee little choice but to award the sport kick. Up stepped Finn Enion to send the keeper the wrong way and the boys into a 2-0 half time lead, which in truth, no less than deserved.

2-0 is often said to be the most dangerous score line in football, so Matt and Paul made sure the lads understood the task still at hand with some encouraging words at half time.

As the second half whistle went, it was clear that those words had struck a chord with each and every one of the players and they were in no mood to let this game slip away.

Attack, after attack, after attack came with Max Weavers, Oli Bayley, Kian Butler and George Mitchell all going close to adding more goals.

3-0 arrived courtesy of a beautiful goal from Tom Malone. Following fantastic build up play from Finn Enion to send Kian Butler through on goal, the ball eventually found its way to Tom who picked his spot and sent the ball into the top corner.

The fourth and final goal came and highlights why this team is a force to be reckoned with going forward. Oli Bayley was the scorer but Charlie Bradley takes huge credit for the assist when perhaps most players would have gone for goal themselves. Following a flick on from another dangerous George Mitchell cross, Charlie found himself with all the time in the world to pick his spot but decided to take the smarter option and square it to Oli who simply couldn't miss, rifling the ball home.

With the scoring now done, the final icing on the cake was the thoroughly deserved clean sheet for Harry Molyneux and indeed all of the defence as Lewis Weavers and Jake Cooling showed grit and determination to keep chances to a minimum.

Next up, Belper United Dazzlers.

Man of the Match as chosen by the management team: Lewis Weavers
