Sunday brought us a fantastic test as we hosted the always-impressive Derby Blue Tigers! On a sticky pitch, both teams came out battling in a top-of-the-table showdown. The opening 25 minutes were fiercely contested, full of heart, commitment, and determination. Chances were hard to come by for Borrowash, but the lads stood strong at the back and matched the Tigers challenge for challenge. They pressed aggressively and gave us no time on the ball, making every moment a real fight on the slippery surface.
The breakthrough came when a high ball dropped into our box and we couldn’t clear it. A chaotic scramble followed before they managed to poke it home for 0–1. That’s how it stayed until the interval.
Half-time was all about settling down, keeping possession, and trying to play with more composure.
The second half burst into life immediately, just like the first—big tackles, huge effort, and plenty of passion from both sides. The Tigers caught us early on the break to make it 0–2, but the boys didn’t let their heads drop.
We got ourselves right back into the contest when we won a free kick inside their half. Lewis whipped in a brilliant ball and Theo finished superbly to make it 1–2. Game on!
But almost instantly, we were hit again on the counter. Diving into challenges cost us and the Tigers took advantage to make it 1–3.
Still, the drive and commitment from our midfield pair, Tom and Toby, was outstanding as they pushed us forward at every opportunity. Unfortunately, our final pass let us down at times and gifted them possession. Another breakaway saw them extend their lead to 1–4, with Harry having no chance.
But this team never quits. Never.
And soon enough, we sparked an incredible comeback!
Charlie sparked life into the game with brilliant skill and determination down the left. Ronnie slid him in, and although the keeper blocked his shot, the ball looped into the air. Charlie reacted fastest, heading it over the line to make it 2–4!
Moments later, he struck again! Tom fed him the ball, Charlie cut inside beautifully, and smashed a superb finish past the diving keeper. 3–4! The crowd could feel the momentum shifting!
We threw everything at them, but in the dying moments, tired legs gave the Tigers one final opening, and they countered to seal it 3–5 at the very end.
What a game! As always, a thrilling, competitive battle between two strong teams. Credit to Derby Blue Tigers—this is the first time in three years they’ve managed to edge us.
