Littleover Dazzlers 2-3 Borrowash Vic’s Rams
In what was our first match for a while due to the weather, it turned out to be a cracker of a game.
Although Littleover are in their first year in Division 1 their results have been suggesting they are matching the good teams and today proved no exception to that.
The game started evenly with both teams attacking each other and putting in crunching tackles. There was a midfield battle where both teams were looking to take control of the game and luckily it was ours that got the edge in the first part of the game.
The deadlock was broken in the 15th minute when George beat his full back down the right and crossed the ball. The keeper spilled it and Charlie was there to pick the bits up and give us a 1-0 lead.
Jake, Lewis, Max and Kian were solid at the back when we were under pressure after we scored and Harry made a couple of good saves to keep it at 1-0 going into half time.
The second half started and Littleover came at us again. This time their midfield were getting the better of us in the middle of the park and our defence were trying to be resolute but were conceding corners. That’s where the equaliser came from. The ball was sent over and we didn’t deal with the first ball and it was bouncing around the 6 yard box and they got the final touch to make it 1-1.
Their tails were up and the pressure kept coming. Littleover were playing balls over the top and into feet and eventually we conceded a second in the 47th minute. 2-1
The midfield of Oli, Tom, Hugo and Weston kept going the whole time and didn’t give up even though the game was tough. We have outstanding talent in our wing back positions with George being excellent all game down the right and Theo the same down the left. They give full backs nightmares. Ronnie was trying to work his magic in the Cam position and up front Charlie and Finn were working their socks off to try and get us back into the game.
In the 55th minute up steps Hugo Fern to drag us back into the game. He made one of his classic runs into the box and the only way to stop him was to bring him down. The ref pointed to the spot. Finn took the ball and as calm as you like fired the ball into the top corner to make 2-2. No chance for the keeper.
We were now on top and Hugo came to the forefront again to grab the eventual winner. Weston fed him the ball, he used some trickery to get free and got in the box. This time they stood off him and he fired a lovely shot into the far corner to make it 2-3.
We were then under pressure for the final few minutes and Harry made a couple of cracking saves to allow us to take 3 points. One in particular which he tipped onto the bar was outstanding. Well done safe hands.
Overall a tough game but this team have shown time and time again they are up for the battle and can pull their socks up when the chips are down.
