This was football at its rawest — a true battle of grit, tactics, and heart, with the swirling wind playing a huge role from the first whistle. Before kick-off, I told our captain exactly what needed to be done: win the toss, take the wind, and strike early. With a goalkeeper like Henry — whose kicks are like rockets — we had to use it to our advantage. And we did. Big time.
The plan paid off to perfection. Two absolute thunderbolts from our wingers lit up the first half — Taylor from the left and Aaron from the right, both smashing in worldies from outside the box. The technique, the power, the confidence — pure class. We were electric. Relentless. We struck the bar, forced top saves from their keeper, and could easily have gone in 5 or 6 up. It was domination.
But football is a game of two halves — and the second was all about resilience. The wind now against us, it was time to dig deep. Henry was simply unreal — pulling off saves that defied belief, commanding his box like a warrior. Behind him, our defence stood tall, heading away wave after wave of pressure. Every man fought for the shirt.
With 10 minutes to go, drama struck — a penalty to Mickleover. But Henry wasn’t done writing his story. He dived and saved superbly, and our boys cleared the rebound like their lives depended on it. Absolute scenes.
Mickleover were stunned. You could see it in their faces. We even heard them questioning it themselves: “We play in the YEL Prem on Saturdays… how can we not beat them?!” ?
The answer? Teamwork. Grit. Passion. Heart.
This was more than just a win — it was a statement.
Up the Vic’s! ???
